MANILA - A female Marine officer was shot dead inside a military facility in Fort Bonifacio in Taguig City, the Philippine Navy said Friday.
The body of 1Lt. Shelina Calumay was found around 6 am last Wednesday with a gunshot wound in the face.
Calumay's body was discovered by a Marine personnel at the driver seat of the victim's car at the parking lot of Jurado Hall inside the Naval Station Jose Francisco.
"Initial result of the investigation disclosed that she sustained a gunshot wound infront of her face. Her personal belongings, that is her wallet and cellphone, is nowhere to be found. No firearm was also found in the vicinity," Navy public affairs officer Lt. Cmdr. Marineth Domingo said in a statement.
Domingo said a hole was seen on the left window of the car where Calumay was found. Paraffin test and autopsy were also conducted, he added.
Calumay, a member of the Naval Officers Candidate Course 13, was married to a Marine sergeant. She recently gave birth to a child.
Domingo said the Navy's Provost Marshal General is conducting a parallel probe to complement the efforts of the Philippine National Police.
On whether the motive was robbery, Domingo said: "We cannot rule out anything yet. We have to see the final result of the investigation. This is already a police matter though we have a parallel effort in support to the PNP in gathering facts."
